Started long before windows xp, active desktop was a feature that would show some webpages or other content on your desktop. It was once called “active desktop” because it could interact with it’s content and show you things on your desktop.
Starting with Windows Vista this feature is no more around. Instead of using ActiveDesktop, there is a new feature called Multifinder

What Is Multifinder
Start Multifinder on your desktop and make a new folder by clicking “New folder” and then typing “Multifinder” in the search bar and double click on “New folder”.

To double check that the folder is in fact a folder, right-click in the field and select “Create Subfolder”.
