LionSnake – Depth Map Rendering:
The LionSnake renderer renders surfaces in a textured map file format. All surfaces can be re-rendered by inserting new projection states at the points between each ray traced sub-pixel. Both perspective and orthogonal projection modes are supported. A key feature is the ability to render depth maps in which surfaces can be clearly visible or entirely concealed. This is a common visual effect for character models, for example.

LionSnake supports the ray tracing renderer Persistence of Vision Ray Tracer for rendering the final textured map file. In this mode, the textured map file can be generated by running the LionSnake program directly.

While all surfaces can be rendered individually, it is also possible to use the subdivision surface mode of the program to render them as a single unit. The surface resolution is controlled by specifying a maximum number of subdivisions. For example, surfaces can be built up to a point in which all the subdivisions will be used up. All subdivision surfaces appear as separate layers and can be output individually. Any subsurface or texture information is preserved.

Each model surface is a series of lines, with the lines being generated by the use of a modified snake.

The modified snake is set up to generate a series of curves along the x, y and z axes, with the program also offering different contour types.

Modelling a surface involves splitting it into multiple elements using the boolean operators and then moving the elements with the mouse.

Creating a surface model with the LionSnake Modeler is straight forward, with the tool offering the ability to create and move surface elements up to a maximum of 16 million per application.

Each surface element can be assigned to a different colour, with this aspect of the process allowing a unique look to the surface of the object.

The LionSnake Modeler offers numerous controls for ensuring that the process runs in a smooth and precise manner.

The controls are used to allow the user to change the variables for the size of the elements, or the end point of a series of curves.

The size of the resulting surface is also configurable, with the size of the final element being shown by the tool as being proportionate to the initial size selected.

The ability to change the base colour on an element after it has been moved by the user.

The software is made up of 2 major parts, a model creation and a model import.

The Model Creation is where you create your model through a series of semi-automated steps which creates your
model. You can create and import models, add shells, edit meshes, and finalize your model.

The Model Import is where you import your model created by the LionSnake Modeler.

This program can be used for the creation of vehicles, buildings, architectural models, and more. It is intended for the creation of standard subdivision surface models suitable for use with the 2D Rendering programs, however, it is not intended for the creation of models for 3D Rendering such as POV-Ray, SGE, Cinema 4D, etc.
