      Hove Borough Council will vote tonight to approve plans for a new £6million fire station at Thomas Cook Way in Hove, East Sussex.

      It is the first of two new fire stations being built in Hove as part of a £9m revamp of the Hove Fire Station.

      Residents were opposed to plans for a new facility on Thomas Cook Way, Hove, back in 2013, and community activist Terry McIntosh is again urging residents to raise their concerns.

      Mr McIntosh was contacted by a reader who would like to remain anonymous.

      She said: “They are proposing a new fire station in Hove, alongside a new police station and office block.

      “Residents have known about the plans for over two years but the councillors don’t seem to want to know.

      “It will create major disruption for the local community.

      “One of the reasons for the opposition was that the proposed site of the fire station was at Thomas Cook Way.

      “This was due to the fact that their first facility was underneath Thomas Cook Way itself which created a health hazard for the firefighters.

      “We are now in a situation where councillors are agreeing plans for a fire station at Thomas Cook Way without any prior public consultation – and just to be sure, they are not making any public information available.

      “We urge residents to attend the meeting to find out about the fire station plans in detail.

      “The existing Hove Fire Station is running at full capacity and is still under-staffed.

      “The station can’t cope with major fire incidents and will cause further delays in the event of a major fire.

      “This is just further evidence of the government’s cuts to the fire service.”
