Metro Vancouver is cracking down on bus operators who are skipping stops without assigning a reason or failing to pay fares.

For the past eight months, the regional transit authority has issued more than 800 notices of violation to bus operators, and issued fines totalling $80,000 since January, said Corey O’Brien, the transit authority’s director of passenger services.

Over the same period, four operators have been cited for riding on a bus without a valid ticket. Mr. O’Brien said these operators will have to pay fines.

Transit operators are barred from skipping stops without assigning a reason, and operators who fail to pay fare on time must return to their transit stop before the penalty is imposed, he said.

“It’s not acceptable for operators to skip stops and not pay fares, so we have a zero-tolerance policy around that,” Mr. O’Brien said. “We would never forgive operators that did that, and we certainly won’t forgive them.”

More than 90 per cent of bus operators report to work regularly, and the authority’s view of its workers is positive, he said. About 30 per cent of bus operators are hired through Toronto’s unionized APTN, and more than 20 per cent are hired through non-unionized employment agencies, he said.

In the past he’s worked with Devil’s Cartel on its upcoming Shining Force Rumble and Nucklemunkey’s Game Heart, a roguelike platformer. He’s currently the Creative Director at Nuckle Munkey, who recently added another ex-Dogfish employee to the team, ex-Designer Andrew Black. ShockRods is their latest project.

Exotic car murdering is the genre that started it all for Shaun. In gaming, you usually don’t get a good account of where a game began. It’s often a fun, spontaneous thing, involving a load of people in a garage or workshop. With ShockRods, Shaun wanted to make it even more awesome, since he realised that nobody’s actually done it before. They’ve all been in the right place at the right time, but they’ve never actually made a game about it. It’s too much fun. You’ll be killing everybody in sight.

The game is made with Unity 4 and features 6 players on each team. A meteorite turns all the cars of a given team into murdercars. These can be performed by any player on the team, and it makes no difference which player is doing it.

This is a meaty game with plenty to like about it, most notable the addition of the political side adding to the intrigue of actually achieving your objectives, which gives us a viable reason to want to get back into the game!

Hmmm, either the authors really dislike their fellow Germans, or they’re just a little bitter they haven’t gotten a massive return on their time and effort.

But the inclusion of the political side does throw up some interesting issues, which mean that I quite enjoy the time it takes to play through a mission, even if they’re generally fairly brief.
