systems. It offers a highly efficient core scalability. During processing of each frame the filter can either use all available cores or allocate the processing to one or even more cores.

Parametric sharpen filters extend the MSharpen filter so it can be used for all picture formats and aspect ratios.
The classic MSharpen filter is not suitable for real time high framerates. The filter creates a high quality image also at low resolutions. This is necessary to obtain a good quality image with a still slow camera. With the original MSharpen, the framerate is limited to 15 frames per second (FPS). The minimum resolution at which the MSharpen has no effect is 800 pixels with a 800 pixel x 800 pixel picture (see original filter).
The MSharpen is the most common sharpen filter in the M3DDLib. The filter is based on the idea of multiplying the original image by a convolution kernel. The MSharpen uses a separable convolution kernel which can be multiplied in the vertical and horizontal direction.
The idea of the separable convolution kernel allows the MSharpen to work with low resolutions. The original MSharpen uses a long unthresholded kernel to create a „strong“ sharpen and to flatten the MSharpen for low resolutions.
The MSharpen filter works even without a CPU intensive blur filter before. The original MSharpen goes to a blurry filter image with high potential of image problems. These problems are the result of the blur filter before the original MSharpen.
To reduce this problem, the MSharpen filter uses a fast filter called „partial blur kernel“. Due to this filter, a blurry effect can be added to the low resolution pictures.
The fast „partial blur kernel“ uses the following parameter set:
Blur radius: 0.9 (the number has to be between 0.0 and 1.0)
Image matrix width: 16
Image matrix height: 16
Image matrix depth: 4 (8 bit image)
Image matrix data type: sbyte
The filter has a scale factor of 0.15 and a center threshold of 0.6. The maximum and minimum values are 0.2. (The values have to be between 0 and 1)
The mask values of the partial blur kernel are the image histogram values.
Not even the original image is blurred. Only small parts of the image which have many pixels are blurred. Parts which have few pixels are not affected.
The result of the MSharpen filter with these parameter set is a blurred image (2xSMP Sharpen).
