It was touted as a new title from FromSoftware, a developer best known for the Bloodborne series, but the actual gameplay matches very little with FromSoft’s previous work. The gameplay has been described as an action-adventure RPG with a turn-based combat system, but it is more a classical action-RPG with some aspects of a roguelike. Rise, Tarnished will feature a multitude of weapons and armor you can combine together to forge your own ultimate weapon, as well as spells and the components you need to use them.The game is fairly deep, but not too deep, and allows you to customize your character from how they look to their abilities. You can switch between three classes and face the challenges of the lands in any way you please, but making your character weaker in one area for the sake of stronger in another is not encouraged. Overall, the game is easy to pick up for those who want to get into the action-RPG genre.If you’re looking for more of the franchise-wise that FromSoftware has to offer, then you’ll probably be disappointed with Rise, Tarnished as it doesn’t take into account any of the direct sequels. Bloodborne might be the closest you’ll come as the combat is similar, but only through trial and error.
