AI Roguelite is a text-based role-playing game played against a powerful AI you can interact with.
Each time you start a new game, you are given a starting universe and a starting AI with a predetermined set of stories. The universe may contain as little as four living beings (a planet, a human, an AI, and a spacefleet), or as many as several thousand, and its AI will always be able to produce a coherent story for every single entity.
Location is generated on the fly when you ask about a particular location, and the AI will quickly scan the new universe to find the best match. Once a match is found, it will place the entity there and decide how to proceed.
AI:
AI is the AI that generates the story for the game. It consists of a language model capable of generating natural language, a VQG (Value-Gradient) neural network capable of generating coherent narratives, and an evaluation model that checks whether the narratives are coherent. The language model is trained on all the game’s stories as they’re written by the human player.
The language model can generate a variety of different genres, such as short stories, novels, movies, or even poetry. It can create new characters and phrases based on its internal world model, and it can write a new story every time it’s refreshed by reading the previous stories.
The language model is only one piece of the AI. The VQG network generates a fictional story based on the input of all the game’s AI entities, and the evaluation model checks whether the story is coherent.
AI and World:
AI and World is the overall AI and world generation technology. It is based on the text-based language model, VQG, and the evaluation model.
The language model is used to generate any physical or abstract entity from a given world. It can generate a completely new world every time it’s refreshed, and can build upon all the entities it has created previously.
VQG is based on a system developed by Jake Altman, where the story is generated by simulating a single agent’s experience. It represents the agent’s experience as a set of word vectors, and the experience of different agents as different similarity matrices. A higher-level plot is generated by combining these word vectors and similarity matrices.
