„Great Spirits, hasten back to your resting places! / From the mansions of our parents, we are banished, / From our brothers and our sisters, we are banned… / We are hungry and freezing and we will no longer be patient. / Like men who have no homes, whose names are never spoken, / We must squat in the darkness / waiting for our chance in the dawn. / But it is hard for us to hold back. / We are impatient, oh dear spirits….. / We do not understand why we are so tired, and why we feel so hungry. / Our blood is on fire. / We must hurry back to our resting places. / But we are hungry and how we are afraid.“

„One day I heard this white woman say in church….. ‚If you think a nigger is a nigger. Then you are a nigger.‘ I heard her say she thought white folks thought she was talking about a nigger like dogs think black folks were talking about them. I seen her say that. She said that nobody knew what she meant, nobody could tell what she meant, nobody knew what she meant. That was in church. I watched her.
„She was standing up in church and talking. She was white. She was talking, and then she got up and left in the middle of it. In church. I saw her leave. I saw her come out of the church.“

Today is a crucial day for India’s Chandrayaan-2 mission — at 9:55 a.m. IST (12:55 p.m. EST) India’s Vikram lander is expected to land on the Moon’s surface, marking a remarkable achievement for the country after years of preparation.

The Chandrayaan-2 mission is to carry out life-defining scientific research in the lunar polar regions where no satellite has ever landed before. The mission aims to assess the presence of water in the Moon’s polar regions.

The mission will help understand the vastness of space. It will also enable scientists to decipher the history of the Moon.

Chandrayaan 2 comes in a time when the US is taking a top-down approach, making it a space superpower with overt military ambitions. Russia and China, on the other hand, are following a more defensive posturing. While some eyebrows are raised around the US’s adventures, they don’t come as much of a surprise.

At the same time, India’s mission is applauded as a success for its space development. The launch and landing also shows that India’s space program has matured enough that it can now attempt such a mission. But there are concerns that this is a short-lived success, if not a temporary one.

Making a difference

It was a historic moment when India became the first country to launch a robotic lunar mission. The Chandrayaan-2 mission, launched from South India’s Sriharikota space base, has made a difference in a number of ways.

For one, it has helped inspire more than 300 million young Indians to dream big. Now that this mission has successfully completed its mission, Chandrayaan-2 will have a solid legacy for its scientists.

But there are some limitations to all of this. While the NASA of decades ago had the vision to build the space shuttle — which was rolled out in 1973 — India is now relegated to a low orbit launcher. It’s
