jQuery-ui dialog box: fine-tune dropdown box/select list

I have a modal dialog box working as expected. All good so far.
In this dialog box, I am using jquery-ui’s dropdown list.
I am not keen on the way it looks – the entire dropdown box is right-aligned against the X:

I was wondering if there is an easy way to tune the appearance of this dialog box? Ideally, I would like the dropdown box to be in the middle of the screen, but still have the search button on the left and the box in the middle of the screen. I tried playing around with the width of the containing div, but that did not seem to work.
I am using jquery-ui-1.8.7.custom.min.js and my dialog box is in version 2.0.0rc2.
Any ideas on how to accomplish this? Thanks.

Normally this part in CSS would allow you to set a specific width for your dialog box:

width: 600px;
}

A different style, but I think something similar to it might work:
.ui-dialog {
width: 600px;
margin: 0 auto;
}
