Once Photoshop is installed, we will be entering the „Photoshop world“ and will be able to open our first file, called Hello.psd. The Photoshop file is basically just an archive file and not a physical file, so it’s simple to open or extract in another program that can understand the file format. We open the Hello.psd file and the Photoshop window appears (it’s also known as the Photoshop Layers window). This will be the central component of the program.

Photoshop’s Layers window

The first thing we notice about the Layers window is the Layers panel on the left. It is comprised of five tabs: Background, Layers, Adjustments, Gradients, and Paths. This is how Photoshop represents the different layers that are available to us in our image. The Layers tab is where we will be working with our layers.

Let’s begin to make some background changes to our document and open the Layers window by clicking on the tab at the bottom of the Photoshop window, as shown in Figure 4-1.

We can see that our initial Hello.psd file has many different layers, represented by squares, circles, and triangles. The triangles represent adjustment layers, which allow us to make changes to the background colors and even change the way that the image is displayed. Because we are using adjustment layers to make changes to the background color of our image, we will separate the adjustment layers from the main layers to keep our files organized.

1. To change the Background layer to a different color, click on the Background layer square in the Layers panel.
2. Open the Layer dialog box by clicking on the down arrow next to the square in the Layers panel, and then click on the Background tab, as shown in Figure 4-2.

The Layer dialog box is divided into three areas: the top and left sides contain fields to input information and the middle is where the document is displayed. We will select the color in the middle area as our background color for the rest of the tutorial.

3. The color field has an area that has four buttons below the field. Depending on the look of your image, you may need to select a color that you find aesthetically pleasing. Click on the color box

Quickfix dialog

Another great tool is the quick fix dialog. It allows you to adjust the color of any area of an image without having to open the image in Photoshop.

Improved quality settings

The quality settings include options for JPEG compression, clarity/contrast, levels, shadows, highlights, plus more.

New features for photographers

Photographers can now import and export images from lightroom to Photoshop Elements. This feature allows you to back up your images from your laptop to your Elements 12 PC.

They also have the ability to create and edit desktop wallpapers using a live background.

The new Lens Blur feature has many use cases. It allows you to remove any unwanted blur effect of a certain lenses. Another great use case is to adjust the effects of any lens you own. For instance, for Canon, there is a blur effect when you use the EF 24-70mm f/2.8 II lens. When you use this lens, you can click on the Lens Blur tool to deactivate blur for the 18-55mm lens.

I got the same problem and i found a hack to this issue.
I found an entry in the plugin file where the setting „showCommitIcons“ is defined. I searched for that key and replaced the
public static final String SHOW_COMMIT_ICONS = „showCommitIcons“;

setting with:
public static final boolean SHOW_COMMIT_ICONS = true;

And now it works fine.
I hope it helps someone as it did for me.
