It has a simple toolbar at the top that you can use to control your computer right out of the box. You can control the volume, change between windows, toggle workspace and even turn off your computer. When you’re finished you just hit the right button on the keyboard and reboot your computer by holding down the key.
Joymote will work out of the box on all operating systems except Windows. Although Windows drivers for many joysticks is available for download.
JOYMOTE is a very small executable file and does not require installation. It can be run from the Desktop, from a start menu and even from a folder. It is never supposed to be run from a CD, there is no installation file on the disc.
There is no support for JoyMote on Virtual Machines. That means you can’t use Joymote with WebEx, Citrix, VirtualBox or with Live CD-Remasters.
Bugs and Problems:
Error Code Not Reachable – Connection to the media server seems to have gone down or was lost. We can’t really tell.
Having a sleep screen at boot up – We’re currently trying to fix this problem.
Not using the default OSD (on screen display) for the keyboard – The OSD comes in the form of a small bar above the keyboard at all times and can display any number of things. The bar will not display itself unless you key it out on the keyboard. Joymote will not use the default keystrokes set by the OSD.

Joymote is a small application. With it you can control your computer with any USB game controller (joystick, gamepad etc).

The project was initially designed to be run from a joystick, and there are some utilities that will give you a visual indication of the positions of your controller sticks. As a result of this progress, Joymote has been rewritten, making it much more simple, and having no dependency on external applications.

Joymote is written entirely in the C programming language, and was written in 2002. The source code of this project is available from SVN. If you like the program and want to help me, have a look at Here you’ll find a detailed description of what is included in this release.

Joymote is free to use and distribute. You can use this tool for any other purpose than to sell software, as long as you credit the author by name, and provide a link to the website of the author.

Joymote can be used for Windows and Linux.

Installation and setup

For Unix-based systems, you’ll have to compile the software from source. Unfortunately, I did not provide pre-compiled binaries for Linux, as my coding skills consist only of homework problems and my own projects.

To configure joymote, run „make setup“ from the source directory of the Joymote project (this should be done as a normal „make“). It will run several configuration steps. The most important one is the creation of a „joymote.xml“ file in your home directory. This file contains a list of which joystick you have connected. You’ll need to find out the index of your joystick, as well as the address of your joystick in Windows. You can find the index of your joystick by selecting the „Joymote“ entry in Device Manager. On a Windows system with multiple controllers, the rightmost number after „HID v1.00“ is your joystick index. In Linux, you’ll have to find out the index using the „dmesg“ command. If you’re running Linux as a live system, you’ll have to know what device your joystick is first, as you won’t find out in “
