“486: The Lost Files is a 2013 point and click, homage to early PC adventure games. It takes place in the year 1986, and the main character lives with his father in a small and lonely farm. He is a quick-witted and brave boy. Then, one day, tragedy strikes! His dad disappears. No notes, nothing. No clue where he has gone. Suddenly, the boy is stuck in a hell of mystery and deranged murders. Only the 12-year-old boy, with great abilities to solve puzzles and the remarkable internal knowledge, can go a thousand miles through the twisted and full of danger passages to find his father. The problem is he needs to survive at any cost, and only perseverance can help him reach his goal.”

A great half-day’s work! This is a point-and-click adventure, so walking around and finding items is essential. There’s no quick-save in this game, so for me that means finding the key to a room or crate and opening it right away. Otherwise, I have to start over every time!

This is a welcome addition to my list, largely because there’s such a dearth of “these days”, but also because this is one of those “you better be in it for the long haul” sort of games. This one is a bit on the demanding side, so you have to enjoy a lot of perseverance. And you better be quick with the mouse!

It’s good to see that more and more games are beginning to incorporate a more retro atmosphere into their designs. This one actually feels like it was made in the 90s, but with updated graphics. I also love that there’s a twist at the end of this one, which I hadn’t seen coming. But don’t stop with just the ending. Keep playing.

Scanner Use

If you are using a 3D-Laser Scanner (eg. Artec Studio 3D Pro, Egis Cobra3D), you can enter
the following to play a „Scanner Mode“ and make the AI opponent play using that data.

Control Pad

If you do not have a 3D-Laser Scanner or other motion sensors, you can enter the following to play a „Keyboard/Hand Mode“ and drag AI player with a mouse.

• The AI player will continuously move left or right if you continuously drag in the given direction.
  When you release the drag, it will immediately stop.
• You can drag AI player to the player player as long as drag number only.
• The maximum allowed distance of line movement is four, and you cannot use the mouse scroll wheel in the set distance limit.
