Horace’s design is based on people who usually solve riddles, usually in a very boring way. There is a light-hearted tone to the game, an intentional contrast to the heavy storyline. Horace is not a world-weary hero but a young man who likes his job and enjoys stories. He acts more like a real life mascot character. From time to time there will be references to Horace’s darker side.
Why is there no initial story for each route?
Horace has no initial story. In contrast to previous games where the protagonist has their introductory story in each route this time around there is no initial story. My justification for this is that the story has been built from the ground up. Also, I thought the initial story would only serve as a formality, something to help the player understand the context of the story. Each route would have its own story built from the ground up and would be a significant part of the ending, so it’s unnecessary to use the initial story to set the context of the story.

—You can return to the title screen and pick another route whenever you want!
—You can play the story from anywhere, and it doesn’t matter how much you’ve beaten the story.
—You can even record your play-through to make new endings or experience various endings from the start.

—A lot of the technical and design challenges for this game were solved thanks to the flexibility of Unity. Everything is so much easier than it was in the past!
