Beginning on March 4, 2018, The New York Times reported that Autodesk (then a subsidiary of The Blackstone Group) is facing a shareholder lawsuit alleging mismanagement and fraud in the Autodesk. In the filing, the company’s former CEO Carl Bass alleges that he was pressured to put company projects on hold while senior executives siphoned money to their own families.

Autodesk AutoCAD is the most used software for architectural, mechanical and electrical drawing, creating surface and three-dimensional drawings, and for navigating and editing technical drawing projects.

AutoCAD was first released on January 30, 1994 and can be used to create, edit and publish 2D and 3D drawing and schematics in the 2D drafting environment. All aspects of the drawing process are seamlessly integrated into a single, unified program.

In the years following its initial release, the program has been continually enhanced by Autodesk to provide more powerful and efficient tools for the needs of all users.

Version history

Beginning with AutoCAD 2015, and the switch to Autodesk’s cloud-based model, Autodesk Autocad has changed its versioning scheme. This means that there will no longer be a „2014“ release, but new versions will appear under an annual subscription. Versioning also means that the product will continue to be available under a perpetual license for existing customers.

CAD components

Traditionally AutoCAD was a proprietary package, while 3D solid modeling was an Autodesk product. The company has released a CAD component for free in many CAD packages, making its proprietary CAD application available to more customers. Autodesk 3ds Max has had great success as a competitor of AutoCAD, and users of both products can create some truly impressive work by fusing the two together.

Editing of DWG files
With the exception of AutoCAD LT 2009 for Mac and the free version of AutoCAD LT 2010, Autodesk no longer offers an edition function, the user must purchase a full license to be able to open an DWG file. The „Edit“ feature of AutoCAD LT 2009 for Mac however, allows an individual to open DWG files in another software, then re-edit them in AutoCAD LT 2009 for Mac.

The new Dimensional Object in the Properties window also supports collaboration. This new Dimensional Object displays the true dimensions of the object. By checking or unchecking the “True” box, you can control whether a dimension is displayed or hidden. A quick way to toggle the dimension on or off is to click on the “True” or “False” box.

In addition, the new “Rationalize Edges,” “Split Edge Fractions,” and “Display Tick Marks” tools enable you to quickly find and correct an edge or decimal, increase the precision of your drawing edges, and display and hide axis tick marks on your drawing.

With a single click, you can display a single or all visible references in a drawing. For large files, the number of visible references can increase dramatically.
