VK Express was a free program that allowed you to record a message for audio.  It
was basically an automated frequency keyer that allowed you to key
your station for another station in your area or on

VKE, you can also repeat a message several times with a pause
between each transmission so you can monitor for another station

computer files to run the program from your web space.  All
VK Express files can be downloaded at any time from the VK
Express page on my website.  VK Express files can be used with Windows
and Mac computer operating systems.
​ For anyone unfamiliar with VK Express, let’s
run through the easy install process.
Simply download the files from the VK Express page on my
website.  After you have all files downloaded, right
click on all the files in your download folder and select „Compress
selected files here.“  From there select „Create archive“.  The files
will be compressed into a file called „VKE.zip“.  Double click on the
VKE.zip file and the archive will be decompressed into a folder
called „VKE“.  Double click on the VKE folder to start
the installation.

As you can see, there is quite a bit of control here.  Any of these options can be used to modulate the VKE’s keying when you press the „key“ button.  That’s what your radio will respond to.  Trying to control the VKE remotely won’t work unless you can figure out how to modify the operating code.  Most voice keyers use a rather primitive circuit, with variable resistors and maybe an oscillator circuit in there, too.
Here are some of the settings I might use.  I don’t set the „Pause“ value very high, so that I can hear the incoming voice message in real time.  I set the „Pause“ value to 1 second, so that if someone takes over my CQ for a moment, they can hear VKExpress repeating the message after the signal fades away.  I set the „Pause“ value to 0.8 seconds, so that if I’m driving home and a ham friend comes along with a friend who I can’t hear, and we go off the air for a few seconds, VKExpress will start over again with a new message, so they can continue our call, and I can call them back.
Here are some settings I use for a contest.  There are things that need to be timed, and the radio doesn’t like jumping from one thing to another quite fast.  I use a timer to run a program called PC-A-TIME, and it’s coupled to the switch closure timer inside the radio.

All are relatively inexpensive (~$100-$150), and some are also capable of sending SMS messages. I use the B8100, and it has been working flawlessly for the past few months, and the frequency response is just as good as the B9100. You can use it with a digital or analog connection to the radio. It has a recorded messages function to send on the radio. If you record your message as a.wav file on your computer, I would just change the frequency on the radio to 9.9 and send your recorded signal. You can then record the radio signal as a.wav file after the transmission on the radio is finished
