When you open a file in Photoshop, by default you see the layers created in the original image.

You can switch to Object mode from the View menu. Elements enables you to select the type of object that you see in your image: a table, a building, a person, or a pattern, and so on. Your subject is placed on a layer you create in Photoshop.

To eliminate the actor’s hair, you place a layer on top of the original layer.

When you create your own artwork, your subject may be part of a design where you may want to keep and merge the text layers together, and then layer the image on top of it.

You can also use Object mode to rotate your image in three dimensions. By using one or multiple layers of background objects — the picture of the actor, for example — you can rotate the image to change its orientation. See the section „Creating Rotating Objects“ later in this chapter.

Getting into the Content mode

Image manipulation goes way beyond simply flipping layers around to create a whole new image. In the Content mode, you can draw or paint directly on your image — a process known as cloning or clipping. Elements enables you to create a vector clipping path that enables you to place a line or shape perfectly in any location of your image, and you can alter it to fit the exact shape of the area you want to use. Open a Photo in Photoshop Elements

1. Go to the Home tab (shown in the screenshot below) and select Open (or press the Spacebar key on your keyboard).

2. In the dialog box that appears, choose the file you want to open.

3. If the file is located on your hard drive, the entire file name should appear as a hyperlink. If the file is stored in the cloud, or linked to a word processing document, the cloud name or placeholder text will appear instead of the file name. Click Open.
